Bio Picture Michelle Hallman
Vocal Instructor

Michelle Hallman performs, records, writes/arranges songs  and tours with many different  projects. She had been a working musician for a greater part of her life, and thrives in the live performance!  She is a well versed singer perfecting a plethora of styles and genres. Even though she’s a rocker at heart, she has always loved choral music and is extremely knowledgeable in vocal harmonies. Michelle is also an accomplished percussionist. She plays congas, bongos,  djembe and all kinds of assorted hand percussion instruments. She can Whistle! She has played the piano since age 3, and took lessons for many, many years! She also plays the guitar and is striving to get better. Michelle has sung/played with the likes of Gregg Allman, Darryl Jones, Mr. Blotto, Umphree’s McGee , Richard Marx, Vince Welnick, Freddie Jones Band, The Bodeans... Her bands have opened for Kansas, Steven Stills and Jazz is Dead. She’s also been the voice of national commercial jingles. Michelle loves teaching at the School of Rock, and is thrilled to share her knowledge and experience.  She is so excited to see what the next generation of talent will bring.

    Bio Picture Jared Rabin
    Guitar Instructor

    Jared Rabin is a guitarist, violinist, mandolinist, singer,
    songwriter, composer and teacher from Chicago. Born into a musical
    family, he started violin when he was 5 years old and played all over
    the world with a youth performance group. He has been performing and
    writing music professionally since graduating from DePaul University
    with a degree in Jazz Studies in 2007.

    After two years of school at the Thornton School of Music at USC in
    LA, Jared returned home to Chicago to finish school and begin playing
    professionally. From 2006-2008, Jared was a member of the violin
    section in the Chicago Civic Orchestra. Around the same time, he was
    performing with his college rock band Nebulous, as well as performing
    as a sideman with Safe Haven, The Frank Catalano Band, and many
    others.

    Jared became part of The HUE in 2007 for a regular weekly stint at the
    once legendary Wise Fools Pub in Chicago. The band has since gained
    serious notoriety in the progressive rock world, having released two
    critically acclaimed records and performed at major music festivals
    and venues across the Midwest. Jared’s compositions from their Beyond
    Words album have been featured on WXRT in Chicago as well as college
    radio stations nationwide.

    Jared’s newest original group is a band called Falldown, comprised of
    some of Chicago’s best singer/songwriters and most in demand rock
    musicians doing their own unique brand of alt/country music. Their
    first studio release is set to drop in Fall of 2012.

    Currently, Jared can also be seen performing rock, jazz, bluegrass,
    and much more music with many different artists. He is the lead
    guitarist in Chicago’s hippest new event band, The Gold Coast
    Allstars, which features some of the city’s top young talented
    players. He is the regular guitarist with “L’Amourchestra” every
    Sunday at The Everleigh Social Club in Chicago. He can also be seen
    playing with bands and artists including Safe Haven, Jeffrey David,
    Elisa Grace, The Dog Patch Ramblers, and Frank Catalano.

    Jared has been a teacher at The School of Rock (Highwood/Evanston) for
    4 years, teaching private lessons and directing shows.

    It's replaced every weekend with a new one!  Probably my first show ever - 15 years old in my singers garage that opened to the backyard.  We had friends and family and played a slew of covers/originals.

    The first song I learned Is hard to say. It was probably something classical.

    My favorite performance memory was at the Earth Day Festival in Santa Barbara, CA 10 years ago. The festival was outside near the ocean to an audience that stretched as far as I could see, and I got to hang-out with Jackson Brown and Kevin Nealon afterwards.

    Played with two bands that were featured on NPR, the Sol Reys and the Drastics. Got to play on a live radio broadcast in Ventura-CA with a band called Cool Water Canyon. Started my own indie-rock record label with some friends called Innertown Records. Currently I play with the band, Michael Lux & The Bad Son who were featured last year on the Chicago cable network show, Chic-A-Go-Go, the coolest music showcase anywhere!
